AULT PARK STREAM RESTORATION PROJECT
The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) – in partnership with the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District and Cincinnati Park Board – is undertaking a stream restoration and storm sewer separation project in Ault Park.
This “sustainable storm water infrastructure” project will eliminate about 17 million gallons of sewer overflows a year into adjacent Duck Creek and improve local water quality and aquatic habitat.
While there are a number of storm water/combined sewer overflow projects in the works at MSD, this one in particular has a focus on utilizing some sustainable technology into the overall design. Instead of
just installing another large underground pipe – they are incorporating a design element where the sewer is “day – lighted” and the collected storm water becomes an asset and brings some nice/aesthetic elements to the project. And this project will impact Ault Park – a highly visible park in
the Cincinnati area.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-December 2011 and be completed by May 2013 (depending on weather and the contractor’s schedule).
The project starts at a manhole on the west side of Observatory Avenue (roughly across the street from the pull-off for the Valley Trail) and ends at Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) 503 at Duck Creek near Old Red Bank Road. The project roughly follows the Valley Trail in Ault Park; therefore, the trail will need to be closed during this construction project for safety reasons.
Every effort will be made to minimize disturbances during construction, but dust, noise, vibrations and local traffic disruptions may occur in the vicinity of the construction area. Please pardon these inconveniences.
Construction activities will generally take place between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be needed.
